I’m Kelly Tomlinson.

I design experiences and products for web, iOS, and events.

Coffee & Design

Branding, Web Design, Community Building

In January 2014, I founded and co-launched Coffee & Design in Kansas City on a mission to fill a gap in the design community. C&D is a free, monthly event series set out to connect, grow, & inspire design professionals.

To continue community building, C&D powers Design On Tap, an informal gathering of designers over drinks; as well as a virtual co-working space to help foster connections and interactions.

Currently, I’m working on bringing Coffee & Design to other cities across the country.

Product Design, iOS Design, UI, UX, Branding

What started out as a 60-second pitch, to first place at Kansas City Startup Weekend 6, to a paid client and AppStore launch, Wazoo! is an application set out to change the way children’s museums and discovery centers are experienced. This product includes a client admin portal that pushes and recieves content to and from the iOS application. My involvement as founder included overall design and branding, product design and ideation, project managment, client relations, business development, and pitching to investors.

Big Kansas City

Branding, Web Design, Print Design

Through Cremalab, I had a wonderful opportunity to create the concept and identity design for the 2013 Big Kansas City conference. Since it was the innaugural event, I wanted to pay homage to the entrepreneurial roots of Kansas City, but pull in the technology and innovation of today. I created custom iconography to represent different Kansas City historical roots with a rough vintage feel, pulling in colour to help creative vibrancy.

Design work included: concept, logo, custom iconography, responsive web design, social media assets, conference collateral including signage, badges, lanyards, photo booth props, stickers, tshirts, and other digital pieces.

Branding, Web Design, Print Design

I’ve had the pleasure of working with Emerging Business CFO since their launch in 2013. EBCFO works primarily with startups and entrepreneurs to help take the grind off operations and let them focus on their business and products.

Design work included a custom logo, website, business package system, and other miscellaneous collateral items for print and marketing.

Lettering, Stickies, & Thirty Days

Lettering, Typography, Design

Handlettering has always been one of those “one day” things for me. One of those things that you’re both so in awe of and yet so envious of, and you tell yourself that “one day” you’ll do something about it. After years of putting off “one day” I finally decided to letter on sticky notes for thirty days straight and publish every single one of them no matter how much I thought they sucked. The idea behind this was to challenge myself to carve out time for something I simply wanted to do, get over the idea of publishing perfection, and most importantly: to kickstart learning to letter.

UX, UI, Web Design

Through Cremalab, I had the pleasure to work with neighbor.ly, a Kansas City based startup who provides a platform to raise money for civic movements.

UX, UI, iOS Design

Through Cremalab, I worked with Blue Cross Blue Shield Kansas City to create an iOS app that allows users to discover nearby health-oriented locations.

UX, UI, iOS Design, Branding

Through Cremalab, I worked with a KC based startup to shape an iOS app that essentially acts as a community board for college campuses.

Stone/Wyss Wedding

Graphic Design, Print

For a friend’s wedding, I designed a full wedding invitation suite: invitation, save the date, RSVP, thank you cards. Letterpress work done by La Cucuracha Press.

Lovely Little Invitations

Graphic Design, Print, Digital

I worked with a Phoenix based startup to help launch a user-customizable stationary line for weddings, holidays, and announcements.

Lifeline Response

UX, UI, iOS Design, Web Design

I had the pleasure to work with the TechStars company LifeLine Response to design their admin portal and re-design their iOS app.
